How acupuncture works
Nervous system, circulation, and body self-regulation
Acupuncture can be understood as pressing the body's reset button. When an area is under too much stress, inflamed, poorly circulated, or held in nervous tension, its biological circuit can become blocked. Signs may appear as pain, numbness, stiffness, heaviness, fatigue, insomnia, or anxiety.
Acupuncture as a reset button
The aim of acupuncture is to help restart these blocked systems so the body can return toward balance and its natural repair capacity. It does not force something foreign onto the body; it reminds the body of a function it already knows.
It does not add anything to the body
Acupuncture does not introduce medication or substances. When the needle enters the skin, it activates natural mechanisms: endorphin release, lower stress hormones, relaxation of tight muscles, support for blood and lymph circulation, reduced inflammation, and regulation of the autonomic nervous system, which is connected with sleep, digestion, mood, and immunity.
Meridians and the neurofascial network
Chinese medicine speaks of meridians: channels through which Qi circulates. From a modern perspective, this can be understood through the neurofascial network: a system of connections between tissue, sensitivity, circulation, and nervous response. Each needle acts like a small switch that helps restore proper flow.
What you may feel during a session
During a session, you may feel aching, pressure, heaviness, warmth, or tingling. These sensations are not pursued as pain, but as activation signals from the body. Each person responds differently, which is why individual assessment matters.
Cumulative effects
The effects of acupuncture are often cumulative, much like exercise or physical therapy. A first session may activate the nervous system; the following sessions may bring more noticeable relief; over several sessions, the body begins to reorganize inflammation, tension, and muscle memory. In the long term, the work aims for stability and consolidation.
Relaxation and the nervous system
Many people feel sleepy or deeply calm after a session. This happens because acupuncture may lower sympathetic activity, associated with stress mode, and activate the parasympathetic system, associated with rest and repair.
Not magic; physiology
Acupuncture does not turn you into someone else. It unlocks and supports what your body already knows how to do: regulate, repair, rest, and gradually return to a more natural balance.
